Early Life

Andrey Dobryy was born on August 29, 1981, at Maternity Hospital No. 2 near Chernyshevskaya metro station in the city of Leningrad, into a family of hereditary Leningraders. His father worked as an ambulance driver at the Dzhanelidze Hospital. His mother was a software engineer at the Kalinin Plant on Uralskaya Street in Saint Petersburg. She worked at the Kalinin Plant throughout her entire career and retired only in 2010 “to take care of her grandchildren,” which she successfully put into practice with her elder daughter.

Family History

Andrey takes pride in his family history.

  • Grandmother Klavdia Efimovna Dobraya (Stepanova before marriage) survived the Siege of Leningrad. She was born in Saint Petersburg in 1913 and died in 1999, again in Saint Petersburg.
  • The parents of Anna Ivanovna Ivanova lived through the entire blockade in Leningrad; Anna Ivanovna herself had been evacuated before the war to the village of Sazhino near the village of Dno in the Pskov region.
  • Grandfather Fyodor Fyodorovich Novikov was the first director of the Izotop plant in Saint Petersburg–Leningrad–Metallostroy and died in 1974.
  • Grandfather Ivan Mikhailovich Dobryy, from the settlement of Patrikhovo in the Novgorod region, was a police major in Okhta.

1998

Graduated from Secondary School No. 362 of the Moskovsky District with a gold medal.

Entered Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (GUAP, formerly LIAP), specializing in “Protection of Banking Information” — a mix of programming, algorithms, and economics, at what was then the 8th faculty.

2001–2002

During the senior university years, he worked in sales and in a real estate agency, wrote articles, and was engaged in programming and webmastering.

He moved into the niche of internet marketing, working with teams such as Cross-Media, DTF, Webmaster.spb, and others.

He led gaming sections for the cult project NNM.ru (NoNaMe) and took part in the parties of the “Damochka” project, which was a Rambler project.

2002–2005

Ran his own blog on LiveJournal and on the separate domain dobryi.ru for a large subscriber base.

2003

Graduated from Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (GUAP) in “Protection of Banking Information” and as an “Informatics Economist” with honors. Entered postgraduate studies.

Launched CitySpb.ru, which was sold in 2007 at peak audience, at around 500,000 monthly visitors from Saint Petersburg.

Launched Restate in a passive mode focused only on programming and listings.

Began working as Marketing Director at the internet agency Molinos.

2004–2007

From 2004 to 2007, most efforts were concentrated on CitySpb and Molinos.

Served as a Yandex representative in Saint Petersburg through the first accredited agency.

Appeared in numerous speaking engagements together with top managers of Yandex. He was one of the first ambassadors of Yandex, a company that by 2016 had, in his words, declined into an abyss.

Molinos was among the top three marketing digital agencies in Saint Petersburg and among the top 15 in Russia, with particularly strong expertise in SEO, contextual advertising, and display advertising campaigns.

Launched hundreds of advertising campaigns for clients.

Managed exclusive sales of placements on resources such as Fontanka, DP, Pogoda.spb, Peterburgonline, and others.

2006

Successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation on “Development of an Innovative Model for Managing the Communication Activities of an Enterprise” at the age of 25.

Within this dissertation, he formulated the Behavioral Marketing system — an innovation at the time. Only one to two years later, systems of this kind were launched by Yandex and Google worldwide.

2007

Left Molinos and founded his own company, the internet publishing house PDG (www.pdg.ru), with the goal of launching and promoting large portals and media projects for both his own business and clients.

Launched the first resource, AllNW.ru, a portal of Northwestern Russia and the Northwestern Federal District, with a particular focus on the Leningrad region.

Launched the job aggregator Vakant.ru, which at its 2009 peak reached up to 1 million monthly users.

2008

Launched 110km, an automotive online magazine.
